Gather round folks for the “World’s longest truck jump”!!

I just got back from visiting my Mom’s parents, who we call, Wogah (Grandpa) + Greg (Grandma). My sister, Dad and I flew up to not only visit ~ but celebrate Greg’s 92nd birthday and their 70th - SEVENTIETH - wedding anniversary! They are my heroes and I say this to them often, but I strive for a love like theirs. They have been through it all together ~ they met in 4th grade- Wogah served in the army - they raised two kids - and built a beautiful life together. They are best friends and two of the sweetest people you’ll meet. Wogah comes from a family of 9 kids - he and 2 of his brothers decided to open a truck stop together in Las Vegas back in the 50’s. They had a gift shop, little cafe, and truckers coming from all over the country. It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows though - at one point they almost lost everything. Wogah also has told me a story where he took all of their grocery money for the week - gambled it - and lost everything. This was the rat pack era, and a time where you could get a steak dinner, drinks, and watch a musical legend perform (ahem Frank Sinatra!!) for like $2. The stories they have from the truck stop are priceless. I had always heard about this one T-shirt they used to sell of a semi jumping over a row of motorcycles- Evel Knievel style.. It sounded incredible and I could only picture it. According to Greg, the shirt used to sell like “hot cakes”. While visiting this past weekend the shirt came up and Greg says, “I think we have one shirt in our closet on the top shelf!”

WHAT! My mind starts spinning and I’m crossing my fingers this is the real deal. Sure enough - it was. This was the first time I laid eyes on the myth, the legend, the ‘hot cake’ T that apparently some truckers thought was a real photo - and it was even better than I could have imagined. The T was in mint condition, printed on a hanes, and soooo up my alley.

So in honor of my Grandparent’s 70th wedding anniversary and all of their incredible achievements - the December 4th Drop is dedicated to them - and their beautiful life together.
